Please review the rules below.  If you are confused ask one of our mentors to help you.

1.         Only AVCC members may enter the monthly digital contest.

2.         There is no restriction on the age of any Digital Image entered.

3.         A Digital Image may be reentered into a second contest if it has not placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in any AVCC contests.

4.         You are allowed to make up a contest (2 digital images) at the next contest meeting. You can only do this once per club year.

5.         All digital images shall be “JPG” type files and shall be named with the “Category_”, the maker’s “Last Name_First Name_” and the Contest Date. “Category” refers to “Open”, “Assigned” and “Nature”.   Please refer to example below.

File Naming Examples:

John Doe’s “Open” digital image file for the February 20, 2008 competition would be:

Open_Doe_John_02-20-08.JPG

John Doe’s “Assigned” digital image file for the February 20, 2008 competition would be:

Assigned_Doe_John_02-20-08.JPG

John Doe’s “Nature” digital image file for the February 20, 2008 competition would be:

Nature_Doe_John_02-20-08.JPG

6.         The file shall be less than 1 mega byte in size and formatted not to exceed 1024 pixels wide x768 pixels tall. The maximum height is 768 pixels regardless of image orientation (portrait or landscape).

7.         The Digital Image file must be emailed as an attachment to avcc.digital@verizon.net on or before the Sunday prior to the competition meeting. The content of the email must include the image maker’s “NAME” and “CLASS”; the image’s “TITLE” and “Category”(Open, Assigned or Nature); and if a “CRITQUE” is desired. No special entry form is needed for email submittals.

8.         All digital images not already emailed to avcc.digital@verizon.net must be registered at contest meetings by 7:00 pm. An entry form, with the image maker’s “NAME”, and “CLASS”, it’s “TITLE” and if a “CRITQUE” is desired, must accompany the digital image. No Digital Images shall be accepted after the 7:00 pm deadline.

9.         There shall be three groups for Digital Image competitions: “AA”, “A”, and “B”.

10.      There shall be at least two categories at each Digital Image competition consisting of “Open” and “Assigned” or “Nature”.

11.      There shall be at least three (3) qualified judges at each contest. They may be non-club members and/or club members who preferably have not entered Digital Images into the competition. If a club member who has entered Digital Images into the competition has to judge, that club member shall not score their own Digital Image and their total score will be adjusted up by the rounded up average of the other two judges.

Example: Member=0, Judge # 1’s Score= 8, Judge #2’s Score=7, Rounded up Average=8, Total Score=23

12.      The competition is based on a scale from 3 to 10 points, where 3 is the lowest and 10 is the highest from each judge. The highest possible score can be 30 points and the lowest possible score can be 9 points.

13.      A Digital Image that does not meet an “Assigned” or “Nature” category in the judges’ opinion shall be scored 3 points from each judge.

14.      In each monthly contest, there shall be a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner(s) in Class AA, A, and B. There will be no tie-breakers. These winners will be awarded ribbons in all places. One may choose not to receive ribbons.

15.      The winning Digital Images from each of the AA, A, and B classes should be made available for entries in to PSA and NECCC contests.

16.      At the end of the club year in June, awards will be given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner(s) in Class AA, A, and B for each category (“Open”, “Assigned”, and “Nature”) and also for the cumulative score of the 3 categories of Class AA, A, and B.

17.      The top cumulative scoring member in class B shall be placed in Class A and the top cumulative scoring member in Class A shall be placed in Class AA at the end of the club year (June). This may be subject to change upon the number of members in each class.

18.      A new member entering the club will start in Class B unless he/she has belonged to another camera club. Then, that person may choose their Class.

(Note: Due to the phase in of digital competitions, there will be no members in the Digital AA Class, in the “2008-09” Club Year.)
