AVCC Digital Competition
File Setup
All
image files submitted in AVCC monthly digital competitions must adhere to the following requirements:
1.
Files must be of type "jpeg".
2. File name must indicate
the image's category, the maker's name, and the date of the competition being entered in the form:
"Category"_"Last name"_"First name"_"Date"
"Category" is one of "Open",
"Assigned", or "Nature".
Examples:
John Doe's "Open"
digital image file for the February 20, 2009 competition would be:
Open_Doe_John_02-30-09.jpg
John Doe's "Assigned"
digital image file for the February 20, 2009 competition would be:
Assigned_Doe_John_02-30-09.jpg
John Doe's "Nature"
digital image file for the February 20, 2009 competition would be:
Nature_Doe_John_02-30-09.jpg
3. The file must be less
than 1 megabyte in size and must not exceed a width of 1024 pixels or a height of 768 pixels. Note this height restriction
is valid for both portrait and landscape orientations.
4. The following are acceptable
media for digital image file submission at the club on competition night, if the images have not been submitted by the preferred
e-mail method. (See web page Club Competition Rules ).

5. The following are step-by-step examples for resizing and renaming image files
using some popular image-editing software.
PhotoShop
Elements Example:
1. Open file of photo that will be entered in PhotoShop Elements.
2. Select Image
on Tool Bar.
3. Select Resize
4. Select Image Size
5. Set Width to a Maximum of 1024 pixels or Height to Maximum of 768 pixels.
6. Select OK
7. Select File
and Save
As on Tool Bar
8. Select location to Save in: i.e. either memory card or flash memory drive.
9. Select Format: JPEG (*.JPG,*JPEG,*.JPE)
10. Type in new file name using last and first names.
i.e. For John Doe's "Open" submission, type:
Open_Doe_John_02-20-09.JPG
11. Select Save
12. Set Quality to achieve file size around 1 megabyte. Maximum Quality should still accomplish this.
13. Select OK
14. Close PhotoShop Elements
ArcSoft Photo Studio Example:
1. Open file of photo that will be entered in ArcSoft Photo Studio.
2. Select Edit on Tool Bar.
3. Select Image Size
4. Set Width to a Maximum of 1024 pixels or Height to Maximum of 768 pixels.
5. Select OK
6. Select File and Save As on Tool Bar
7. Select location to Save in: i.e. either memory card or flash memory drive.
8. Select File Type: Jpeg (*.JPG,*JPEG)
9. Type in new file name using last and first names.
i.e.
For John Doe's "Open" submission, type:
Open_Doe_John_02-20-09.JPG
10. Set Quality to achieve file size around 1 megabyte. Maximum Quality should still accomplish this.
11. Select Save
12. Close ArcSoft Photo Studio
Other photo editors work similarly.
